Police officers have made several arrests and seized a number of weapons and drugs following a very public brawl between rival gangs in Kaikohe.
The fight, involving a number of lethal weapons occurred on a public street on Saturday afternoon and left Kaikohe locals extremely frightened.
Northland Police Inspector Al Symonds says as a result thirty police offices swooped 12 Kaikohe homes arresting nine gang members and ceasing a large amount of illegal property.
"We picked up a whole lot of weapons, we picked up a reasonable quantity of Class C drugs, a reasonable quantity of cash and some Class A drugs as well."
Those arrested are facing charges of rioting and possession of offensive weapons and some also face a charge of participation in an organised criminal group.
Symonds says as a result thirty police offices swooped on 12 Kaikohe homes seizing weapons and drugs and make a number of arrests.
"We arrested several of the protagonists yesterday, a further two this morning and we're still looking for another four.
"But we know who they are and we'll round them up."
