Christchurch police are hoping to talk to suspects over the stabbing of an inmate at Christchurch Men's Prison.
The 26-year-old was attacked by three or four men while serving lunch around 12 on Tuesday.
He was stabbed in the head a number of times with a piece of wire.. he needed stitches but wasn't seriously injured.
Detective Sergeant Geoff Rudduck says they'll continue investigations this week.
"We were advised of possible suspect and once we've reviewed CCTV footage and analysed the exhibits that we've taken, those alleged suspects will be spoken to and likely to be charged."
Police are still trying to determine whether it's gang related.
