Serena Williams' return to Wimbledon has not lasted as long as she would have hoped.
The 23-time grand slam singles champion has gone down to world number 113 Harmony Tan of France 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 in the first round.
The match lasted more than three hours.
The 40-year-old American had not played in singles since she was injured in the first round a year ago at the All England Club.
It was Tan's first ever match at Wimbledon - a victory over Williams on centre court.
"I'm so emotional. I don't know what to say because she's a superstar. When I was young watching her many times on the TV. For my first Wimbledon it's..wow," she said after the win.
