All White Francis de Vries will miss the rest of the A-League’s regular season after he suffered a calf injury while on international duty.
Auckland FC head coach Steve Corica confirmed the left back will miss six weeks through injuries, meaning he will be out for the rest of the regular season but could return for the semi-finals.
De Vries felt an issue in his calf during New Zealand’s 2-0 loss to Finland on Friday and was substituted just before halftime.
Scans since then have revealed the 31-year-old suffered a calf strain.
The All Whites were already a goal down when de Vries was taken off and failed to threaten the Finland goal too much, outside of substitute and clubmate Jesse Randall.
New Zealand’s 16-year wait for a win over a European side continues, but they were able to to beat Chile 4-1 on Monday in de Vries’ absence.

This was the All Whites’ first win over a South American opponent, with goals from Kosta Barbarouses, Elijah Just, Jesse Randall and Ben Waine providing the goals on a historic night.
De Vries is still likely to make the World Cup squad, having started seven straight games for New Zealand before Monday night’s fixture, but Libby Cacace is expected to start at left back ahead of the Auckland FC player.
De Vries has rarely missed a game for his club since signing in 2024 and this will be his first long spell on the sidelines since he ruptured his ACL in 2023 while playing for Swedish club Värnamo.
He was rewarded with a new contract this year, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2028-2029 season.
Auckland FC face a tough end to the season without their starting left back, having to play Adelaide United, Melbourne Victory, the Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC, with all except Central Coast currently sitting in finals spots.
The New Zealand-based side are second on the ladder, four points behind the leaders, the Newcastle Jets.
