The Council of Trade Unions has been knocked back its call for select committee inquiry into the implications of the TPP trade deal.
The CTU had also asked that negotiating documents relating to the deal be made public.
However Parliament's Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Trade Committee, says while its sympathetic to many of the union's concerns, it won't be carrying out an inquiry.
It says any TPP treaty will come before Parliament for examination after signing and at that point the public will be able to make submissions on it.
The Committee has recommended though that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expand the way it conducts consultation with non-business stakeholders on such matters in the future.
