Aucklanders carrying Winston Peters' SuperGold card might have some of their concessions revoked.
Card-carrying senior citizens in the city have been getting free bus rides all day after 9am.
However, the government-funded scheme doesn't pay for travel during the afternoon peak.
Auckland Council currently pays for that, but now Auckland Transport has given the council the option to start charging.
Councillor Christine Fletcher said the new government, which Peters is a part of, might want to start funding the afternoon peak.
On the campaign trail, Peters said he wanted a "new generation" SuperGold card that would have increased benefits, including free doctor's visits and eye checks.
Auckland Council will decide on the issue in its 10 year budget in June next year.
