
Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele was welcomed to Parliament this morning with a military guard of honour and pōwhiri.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, his wife Amanda and Speaker of the House Gerry Brownlee met Manele and his entourage on the Parliamentary forecourt.

A short pōwhiri was followed by a military guard of honour and performance from the brass band.
Manele’s last visited New Zealand in 2022, when he was Solomon Islands Foreign Minister.

He will also visit Foreign Minister Winston Peters and Oceans and Fisheries Minister Shane Jones.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said he was looking at furthering the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
“It will also be good to hear about Solomon Islands’ plans for hosting the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in September.
“Solomon Islands is an important partner for New Zealand, with which we share a historic connection.”
