Simon Bridges is adamant he's out of the loop as to whether Air New Zealand's top man will be taking up a seat with National.

The leader of the Opposition has faced questions as speculation mounts that Christopher Luxon might enter politics.

Today, Bridges joked with Newstalk ZB's Chris Lynch - saying there's a spot in Selwyn for the Canterbury-born businessman.

"It's possible Christopher Luxon could stand in Selwyn, but I've got no evidential basis to say that," he said.

The Selwyn electorate will be vacant at the next election as Amy Adams steps down to spend more time with her family.

Bridges added that Luxon's a terrific guy.

Rumours have also been swirling this week that Bridges hadn't spoken with senior MP Judith Collins before the party reshuffle earlier this week - which saw her lose her infrastructure portfolio.

Bridges told media he'd had dinner with Collins

But Political Editor Barry Soper said she'd been seen dining with someone else the night in question.

Today, Bridges cleared up the issue with Newstalk ZB's Chris Lynch.

"We were there in the dinner hall talking. Did I sit down and eat scrumptious goulash while she was eating her burger and fries? No. My recollection is that she was eating an ice cream."

He says this was followed by a longer meeting that evening.
