The Prime Minister is expected to speak to reporters this afternoon, shortly after the release of a poll which shows National remains below 30%.
At the 3pm press conference, Christopher Luxon will also likely address the latest news on the fuel disruption situation. The press conference will be livestreamed above.
Although it is a recess week at Parliament, Luxon is in Wellington. A swearing-in ceremony will be held at Government House this afternoon for the country’s two newest ministers: Cameron Brewer and Mike Butterick.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on Monday said New Zealand had 27.2 days’ worth of petrol in the country, 17.5 days’ worth of diesel, and 25.5 days’ worth of jet fuel.
When fuel stock en route to the country is taken into account, there is 61.9 days’ worth of petrol, 51.5 days’ worth of diesel, and 50.1 days’ worth of jet fuel.
“The latest update shows national fuel stocks remain stable, with sufficient stock levels across petrol, diesel and jet fuel,” MBIE said.
“The data released today shows an increase in petrol and jet fuel stocks and a slight decrease in diesel stock since the last update on April 1. Movements remain within expectations and show normal patterns.”
This compares with 58.7 days’ petrol, 52.2 days’ diesel and 46.2 days’ jet fuel in the previous update.
Earlier on Tuesday, the latest Taxpayers’ Union-Curia poll was released. It showed National as having risen slightly but still below the 30% mark.
Labour was down 1 point to 33.4%, National was up 1.4 to 29.8%, NZ First had increased 3.9 points to 13.6%, Act was up 1.5 to 9%, the Green Party was down 2.7 to 7.8% and Te Pāti Māori was down 0.6 to 2.6%.
If that was converted to seats in the House, the centre-right bloc would be on 65 seats, enough to govern, while the centre-left would be on 55 seats.
The poll was taken between April 1 and April 2. This came amid renewed speculation over Luxon’s leadership following a mysterious Sunday night meeting with Auckland ministers.
