The Privacy Commissioner will be implementing a new policy which will enable agencies who breach the Privacy Act to be named publicly.
The decision to name agencies will be made on a case to case basis once the policy comes into effect on Monday.
Privacy Commissioner John Edwards says it's not intended to name and shame the agencies.
Mr Edwards says the new policy will provide important information to consumers and will also promote better compliance with the act.
