It's Government or bust for Labour MP Trevor Mallard as far as this year's election is concerned
He's been ranked 32 on the party's list, and won't have the back up of an electorate seat as he's chosen to go list only for the election.
Mr Mallard acknowledges on current polling his list placing wouldn't see him get back into Parliament.
However, he says after "nine years in a row" he wouldn't want to be an opposition MP again.
"I'd like to be Speaker, and to do that [Labour] have to do a bit better. If we do a little bit better, I'll be in Parliament and Labour will be in Government."
