Updated 12.19pm: An update's been released on results from Auckland's Housing Accord, but how well the city's doing at alleviating the shortage depends on who you talk to.
The council and the Government say good progress is being made.
Minister Nick Smith says more than 11,000 new sections and dwellings in the first year shows good progress and is above target, and house price inflation has slowed.
But the city's still 20,000 homes short.
Labour’s Phil Twyford says the figures show the accord's had little impact on the crisis, he says the whole thing's been a hopeless failure and the minister should admit defeat.
Keeping new house prices under $550,000 will be a focus for the Auckland Council.
The council signed off on 11,060 consents for new dwellings and sections in the past year.
But Auckland mayor Len Brown says if those new houses aren't affordable, nothing has been solved.
"Getting a supply in under $550,000 and ensuring those that are new to the homeowning market get a chance to come in at that level is an area that I think we need to continue to focus on."
