The Crown/Maori Relations Minister is in no hurry to see commemorations of the New Zealand Wars become a national day.
The first official commemorations of the Wars are wrapping up in the Bay of Islands, following a remembrance service for the fallen.
Kelvin Davis says the official marking's been a long time coming and that the wars remind us of the need for Crown and Maori to work together.
However, there are no plans to see the wars marked by a national day.
Mr Davis says conversations around creating a new a national day aren't pressing.
He expects the kaupapa will evolve over the years and says the wars are something all New Zealanders should commemorate.
