Canterbury based Green Party MP Eugenie Sage is focusing on her new roles before considering another.

She is the new Minister for Conservation and the new Minister for Land Information, as well as the Associate Minister for the Environment.

The Greens have been without a female co-leader since Metiria Turei stepped down in August.

The party are scheduled to vote on a new female at the AGM in July.

She said the party is considering speeding up the process, but she hasn't decided whether she'd go for the role yet.

"Concentrating at the moment on getting my feet under the table in terms of being a minister so haven't thought about the co-leadership of the Green Party at this stage."

Sage said she is is though ready to get stuck in boots and all to her new conservation portfolio.

Labour's agreement with the Greens includes plans to significantly increase Department of Conservation funding.

Sage said we need to urgently improve the outlook for native plants and wildlife, particularly fish.

"We have more native fish that are potentially going extinct in New Zealand than virtually anywhere else in the world. We need some fresh water reserves where fresh water species like a lot of our whitebait are safe."
