In a strange turn of events the current Minister of Police is set to be a witness at the trial of a former police officer, and now parliamentary colleague.
Paula Bennett is set to appear in Court later this year at the trial of Whanganui MP Chester Borrows. He's facing a careless driving charge over an incident involving anti-TPP protesters in his electorate last year.
Two protesters claim they were struck by his car while he was leaving a protest in his electorate in March.
Ms Bennett said if she is called as a witness she has no choice, though she describes the circumstances as unusual.
"It feels completely unusual - I've never been summoned as a witness before.
"I just have no qualms about being the Minister for Police and also being a witness, I just have to simply stand up and tell the truth and what happened on the day, and that's what I intend on doing."
The trial is scheduled to begin in Whangnaui District Court on May 8.
