The Conservative Partyâ s choice of candidate for Napier appears to be paying off, according to a new One News-Colmar Brunton poll.

Sensible Sentencing Trust founder Garth McVicarâ s on 22 percent support - and dragging votes away from National, which now looks set to lose the seat.

Its newcomer candidate Wayne Walford is left with 33 percent support, compared with 39 per cent for Labourâ s Stuart Nash in the opinion of those who responded to the poll.

The Conservatives' share of the party vote is at nine percent in the electorate â “ about double what itâ s polling across the rest of the country.
