The Government is setting aside $450 million in funding, in case the fuel crisis worsens and it needs to hand out more support.
A $373 million funding package was announced earlier this year, to temporarily increase the In-Work Tax Credit - which came into effect in April.
The newly announced reserve will only be employed if needed, and otherwise expire next March.
Finance Minister Nicola Willis says the Middle East situation remains uncertain, so the Government needs to be ready if fuel prices rise more - further pressuring households and businesses.
