A Kiwi guide who was caught up in the White Island eruption is in an induced coma and fighting for her life.

Kelsey Waghorn, a tour guide with White Island Tours for five years, was working on the island when the volcano erupted.

She suffered serious burns and is one of two Kiwis who remain in hospital after Monday's tragedy. The other was teenage guide Jake Milbank.

Another 19 victims from around the world remain in New Zealand hospitals. Another seven repatriated back to Australian hospitals. Sixteen others are believed to have died.

A Givealittle page created for Waghorn states she is in a critical condition and in an induced coma after sustaining full thickness burns to 45 per cent of her body.

She is having to undergo surgeries every 2-3 days for skin grafts and constant monitoring of her burns, according to the page.

Waghorn, a passionate marine biologist, loves every second spent out on the ocean doing the job she loves, the page reads.

"Her attitude towards safety and well-being is hard to beat and she would never let her actions put anyone else at risk," the page reads.

"She would always make the effort to help others and leave herself to last.

A Givealittle page has also been created for Jake Milbank, who is in the ICU of Middlemore Hospital surrounded by family, to raise money for anything he needs during recovery.

The Givealittle page was created by long-time family friend Rebecca Holder who shared the cause on Facebook saying it was the young man's 19th birthday on the day of the eruption.

He is now in hospital with 80 per cent burns to his body.

Holder told the Herald she created the page so his family would not have to worry about finances while they supported Milbank in hospital.

His parents and sister are all at his side.

"The family thanks everyone for their messages of kind support and every donation will be gratefully received," Holder said.

"He was in his element," she said of Monday's tragedy.

"He just eats, sleeps and breathes everything ocean. It's his passion."
