A young Whangaparāoa College pupil walking to school has been struck by a vehicle.

The school’s principal Steve McCracken said the incident happened on Whangaparāoa Rd while the student was walking to class.

“The student was struck by a vehicle on Whangaparāoa Road.

“Police and ambulance were called immediately, and the student was taken to Starship [Hospital] in an ambulance with mum next to them.

“It happened on their walk to school so around 8.15am.”

Police said the pupil was in a stable condition.

“An intermediate-aged child suffered moderate injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.”

McCracken said the school was yet to receive an update from the hospital and was going about “business as normal”.

The Auckland school, which teaches year 7 - 13 students, is located on Stanmore Bay Road on the Hibiscus Coast, adjacent to Whangaparāoa Rd.
