Road resilience will be the main focus of Northland's Regional Land Transport Programme.

The Northland Regional Council is working alongside the three district councils to decide spending on road infrastructure over the next three years.

Northland Regional Council Transport Committee Chairman, John Bain says recent weather events have highlighted the need for alternative routes.

"We've always known that we need to be cautious about our roading, but of course to have those two weather-bombs that we've had, one after the other, it brought to the fore just how urgent it is."

John Bain says the councils will be looking at the best options to benefit all Northlanders.
