Plumes of smoke were seen on the Waitematā Harbour after a Waiheke ferry got into trouble this morning.
A Fullers360 spokesperson said a fault was noticed onboard the 7.30am Waiheke to Auckland service.
“What occurred was a minor fault impacting one of the engines on this morning’s service identified by the crew who, in line with standard procedure, shut the impacted engine down as a precaution. “
It resulted in smoke and steam from the vessel’s exhaust system.
There was no fire and no danger to passengers.
“The journey to Auckland’s downtown ferry terminal was slightly delayed, and the vessel berthed without incident and all passengers disembarked the vessel safely upon arrival.
“Safety is our number one priority, and at no point was there any safety risk to passengers or our crew.”
They said the vessel will undergo a full maintenance and safety review under maritime regulation before it is cleared to return to service.
An onlooker told the Herald they spotted the smoke from the shore.
They said it appeared the Waiheke ferry looked “like it was having fire or engine issues”.
