Two people are critically ill in a Hamilton hospital after a car crashed into a house, injuring one person, before the neighbours began to assault the car’s driver.
Police are now working to figure out what took place while the two critically injured patients remain in a serious condition.
Police said they were called to Marshall St, Fairfield, about 8.30 last night.
“Police were notified of a car colliding with a house, causing one occupant of the house to receive critical injuries.”
The driver then got out of his vehicle, and an “altercation” took place with neighbours.
“The driver of the vehicle received critical injuries during the assault and was transported to the hospital, where they remain in a serious condition.”
Police on the scene this morning.
No charges had been laid while police worked “to establish the circumstances of the incident”.
Hato Hone St John responded to the crash last night with two ambulances and three rapid response vehicles.
Two patients were assessed at the scene, one in critical condition and another in serious condition.
Both were taken to Waikato Hospital.
Police officers are on the scene this morning, with at least three police cars in the area. Officers have been seen going door-to-door speaking to nearby residents, trying to piece together what happened.
