Three people have been injured after a two-vehicle crash between Twizel and Omarama in Canterbury.
Emergency services responded to the crash on Twizel-Omarama Rd near Lake Ohau Rd just before 1pm.
Hato Hone St John responded with one PRIME responder, two first response units, one ambulance, and one helicopter.
One person was airlifted to Christchurch in a serious condition.
Another person was taken to Timaru Hospital in a moderate condition, while a third person was taken to High Country Health Centre in a minor condition.
Fire and Emergency said crews from Omarama and Twizel responded to the incident, remaining on site to assist with a helicopter landing and scene management.
Nobody was trapped in either vehicle.
The road is closed, with motorists advised to avoid the area where possible and expect delays.
