Banks Peninsula residents are hoping for a law change as their local cemetery is rapidly running out of room.
A Christchurch City Council Hearings Panel will today discuss a review of the proposed amendments of the cemeteries bylaw.
They've had 32 submissions on this policy, many from Diamond Harbour residents concerned there are only ten green burial plots left at the cemetery.
Diamond Harbour Community Association secretary Christine Turner says the memorial gardens cemetery is very popular with locals.
"And I think a lot of residents would love to be buried there, but there are just a small number of plots available at the moment, and we really need that area to be extended to accommodate the community."
Turner says the next closest green burial site is Yaldhurst which is too far away.
She says currently people can't book green burial sites.
"We really need people to be able to book their plots so they can be buried next to a loved one."
The Hearings Panel will hear the submissions then make a recommendation to the council.
