It should cost less to get a taxi from Auckland Airport in future, with new rules coming in for operators.

There's been a meeting today at which the Airport outlined its plans for better system.

It includes standardising the fees charged to taxis for pulling up outside the terminals and also allowing customers to choose a preferred company or from the front of the queue.

The airport is also mindful of Uber drivers offering lower fees.

It says the new scheme will mean a more level playing field, and this should lead to cheaper fares.
