Residents of Auckland's North Shore have made it clear they want to save a favourite beach side holiday park.
Eighty per cent of respondents in a Local Board survey say they want to keep the Takapuna Beach Holiday Park.
Jan Gopperth from the Save Takapuna Beach Holiday Park group said the message is clear.
"Our local board have always said we will listen to the people, and if there's an overwhelming majority we must listen and act on their wishes so we do believe that will happen."
Gopperth said the most sensible way forward now is for the Resource Consent application to be abandoned by Yacthing New Zealand, so both tax payers and ratepayers are saved millions of dollars.
The plans for a Yachting New Zealand marine hub in place of the park were much less popular, with eight percent support.
Gopperth said public support is even stronger than they realised.
"Eighty percent - its an overwhelming endorsement from the public, isn't it? And and a real message to the council about saving our holiday park so we are quite overwhelmed."
Jan Gopperth said it now seems impossible for the local board to go against the wishes of the people and grant land owner's consent to Yachting New Zealand.
