Updated 12.58pm: There's a new pool planned for Hamilton, except this one's a bit different because it's destined for the middle of the Waikato River.
The project is part of the Hamilton City Council's 30 year River Plan, and will be one of the first new developments on the river.
Mayor Julie Hardaker says they're looking at creating a pontoon style enclosure just off Wellington Beach.
"What we're trying to do here is create a safe enclosed environment that looks like a swimming pool, and is part of the natural river. I think it's going to be amazing."
Turning Ferrybank into a tourism hub is one of the key projects in the Hamilton City Council's 30 year River Plan.
Mayor Julie Hardaker says over the next ten months they'll be working on designing exactly what it will look like.
"Hamilton needs to have it's own Wellington waterfront or Auckland Viaduct and this is our one, and we've got to make it our own."
The River Plan will be presented to council this week.
