The Heart Foundation is re-introducing a sugar criteria as part of its Tick programme.
The move comes from new reccomendations by The World Health Organisation (WHO) for people to reduce their daily intake of free sugars to less than 10 percent of their total energy consumption.
The Heart Foundation's Tick Programme Manager, Deb Sue, says previous evidence showing a stronger link between energy intake and cardiovascular disease is now obsolete.
"Now there is more evidence between sugar intake and heart disease...with the WHO guidelines out it's enough evidence for us to reintroduce the sugar criteria."
Deb Sue says the new criteria will be implemented by September this year.
