A major road in inner Auckland has been closed and buildings are being evacuated due to an unfolding emergency incident.

New North Rd in Kingsland is blocked by police and fire trucks, disrupting buses.

Bystanders have described a “strong smell” in the area.

The Herald has approached Hato Hone St John for comment.

The road was closed between Morningside Drive and Sandringham Rd. Buses were detouring on this stretch.
