Strong field of Halberg finalists announced

New Zealand's sporting achievements of 2015 have been highlighted in 63 nominations for the Halberg Awards.

World Rugby player of the year Daniel Carter heads the sportsman of the year list, which includes the likes of golfer Danny Lee, cricketer Kane Williamson and rower Mahe Drysdale amongst the 13 athletes.

Reigning champion Lydia Ko is nominated again in the sportswoman of the year list which also includes swimmer Lauren Boyle, kayaker Lisa Carrington and time trial cycling world champ Linda Villumsen.

2014 Supreme Award winners Eric Murray and Hamish Bond are on the team of the year list with the All Blacks, Breakers and 10 other teams.

All Blacks coach Steven Hansen is one of 11 nominations for the coach of the year gong with track cycling coach Anthony Peden.

The finalists will be announced early next week.
