Chiefs Assistant Coach, Andrew Strawbridge has been moved to a ward at Waikato Hospital.
He was admitted to hospital in Samoa in a critical condition last week after an eye infection took a serious turn.
Last night it was reported that he was awake and in a serious but stable condition in the Waikato Hospital Intensive Care Unit.Â
A statement from the Chiefs says he's been talking to medical staff and to his wife Laura and sister Susan at Waikato Hospital.
He asked his wife to send a text to Dr Chris Galler in Samoa to thank him for saving him and and helping him to get home alive when he was first admitted with an eye infection last week.
Strawbridge has been sent a special video from the Manu Samoan team who are currently on tour in San Jose.
According to the statement the video was received with great joy by the family and will be shown to Strawbridge this afternoon.Â
Nearly 22-thousand dollars has been raised for an appeal to provide medical equipment for the Samoan Hospital where Mr Strawbridge was cared for, before being flown home to New Zealand.
