Updated 4:40pm: Prices for Spark internet and phone services may rise in light of a Commerce Commission draft decision on proposed new wholesale rates Chorus should charge retailers.
The company is carrying out an urgent review of its pricing after the announcement, which it says will leave their costs around 60 million dollars higher than previously expected.
Internet New Zealand says the decision hasn't provided the certainty the industry needs, and is disappointed that Commission's proposed pricing is higher than expected.
Internet New Zealand chief executive Jordan Carter says companies already struggle to make money so the Commerce Commission's draft means price rises are probable.
He says profit margins in the industry are already pretty thin, so the new proposal doesn't help.
