SkyCity has unveiled plans to build a new hotel on land once owned by TVNZ.

The casino was allowed to buy the land in September last year after telling the Government it needed it for its convention centre.

The New Zealand Herald reports the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment says the casino approached officials three months later to negotiate a change to include the hotel.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister says John Key is comfortable with the changes and the process.
