SkyCity Chief Executive Nigel Morrison is resigning after six months of discussions with the Board of Directors about a succession plan.

Mr Morrison has been in the job for eight years.

Skycity Chair Chris Moller said they're pleased with what he's achieved during his tenure - extending exclusive casino licences in Auckland and Adelaide, and developing the Federal Street precinct into a dining hub.

Skycity said Chief Operating Officer John Mortensen will be the Interim Chief Executive while they recruitment for a permanent replacement.

Mr Morrison's resignation will be effective at the end of April.
