The Ministry of Business, Employment and Innovation is warning about the dangers of sky lanterns as the summer months approach.

It says they should only be lit in still conditions, away from homes, trees and other obstacles.

Users are responsible for any damage they cause.

The Ministry says while paper sky lanterns look nice in the air, people should think twice before lighting them, as there's a real risk of injury or damage.
