Shiny new electric trains are rolling out on the tracks of the Auckland rail network this morning.
The first additions to the fleet were introduced in April last year, and Auckland Transport Manager Mark Lambert hopes people will now be encouraged to hop aboard even more often.
"Now that we are fully electric on the Southern and Western lines, we expect and hope to see a big patronage increase on those lines as well."
He's hoping people will be "quite excited about the new trains."
"People have been pretty excited when they get on the trains for the first time."
Mark Lambert said the rest of the European-style fleet is due to arrive at the end of the year.
Bus services will now run between Swanson and Waitakere, and diesel trains between Papakura and Pukekohe.
