A woman found in a West Coast bush six weeks after she went missing has told police about her "remarkable story of survivable".
Shelley Crooks was found by a member of the public close to a walking track near Punakaiki, 45 kilometres north of Greymouth, about seven o'clock last night.
Her rescuer gave the mum-of-four food and water before running for help, Ms Crooks was then airlifted to Greymouth Hospital.
Sergeant Michel Bloom from Greymouth Police said the 36-year-old is recovering well, and has explained how she was able to survive.
He said she was well equipped and had extensive bush craft knowledge, enabling her to survive for weeks while slowly making her way out of the bush.
He said she's grateful for those who aided in her rescue and Police are ecstatic about the positive outcome.
