An attempt at breaking the world sheep shearing record has been abandoned.
Te Kuiti shearer Stacey Te Huia trained for the last eight months to try and shear more than 721 sheep in nine hours.
But by midday the record attempt had slipped out of his grasp.
The 36-year-old is now heading to Australia to prepare for a record attempt at merino shearing next month.
