A serious crash has closed a State Highway 2 in Wairoa, with traffic diverted, and motorists are asked to delay travel.

Police were called to the two-vehicle crash at Black St and Archilles St about 3pm and the road is now closed at Black St.

A police spokesman said they understood there were injuries, and diversions were being organised.

NZTA said the Serious Crash Unit would attend the scene and their investigations could take several hours.

“Delay your journey or avoid the area.”
