Another Auckland harbour crossing may be decades away, but there's light at the end of the tunnel for those calling for it to cater for public transport.

Transport Minister Simon Bridges and Auckland Mayor Len Brown have released a list of transport priorities for the city, for the next 30 years.

'Waitemata Harbour crossing improvements' are set down for sometime between 2038 and 2048.

North Shore councillor Chris Darby said that timing is a worry, but points out it's only an indicative plan.

"And some of the projects are going to move up, and others are going to move down, and it's now our chance to work some of these into a position where they move up."

Rail to the North Shore is one thing Chris Darby would dearly like to move up, and said the report does talk about 'mass transit' connections.

"And I read that as a rail or light rail connection to the North Shore, and so that is a big change, that's a big win."
