A search launched after an upturned dinghy was found in the Rangitoto Channel yesterday has been called off with no sign of any missing occupant.

The distinctive green plastic dinghy with a grey plastic seat was found around midday.

The police vessel Deodar, helicopters and coastguard boats combed the area but found nothing.

No one has been reported missing that could have been related to the find, so they've been stood down.

It's possible it came loose from a mooring.
