There are concerns over the lack of information available to parents when buying unsanctioned go-karts.
This comes after the death of a nine-year-old boy at Ahipara on Saturday after the go-kart the boy was driving, rolled over.
KartSport New Zealand National President Graeme Moore understands the vehicle involved was homemade, something which is becoming cheaper and more common in New Zealand.
"You can buy them for as little as $500 brand new on Trade Me and there appears to be no rules regarding the guidance or the information that comes with these unsanctioned go-karts. There's no way that an uninformed parent can easily make a judgment."
