Auckland's alcohol rules will change just hours before this weekend's Rugby World Cup final.
About half of Auckland Council's 1600 liquor ban areas will expire at midnight Saturday.
That's just five hours before the deciding match between the All Blacks and Wallabies on Sunday morning.
Bylaws committee chair Callum Penrose said the new alcohol ban areas have been selected based on evidence.
"It's about making sure our park rangers, our park staff and our police take note of what goes on across the region."
Penrose said new liquor ban areas can be created if there is evidence they're required.
"If there is a problem it's about three months from the time of notification to the time of completion and hopefully liquor ban will be put back in place."Â
The changes are the result of the Government's reform of liquor laws in 2012.
