The 1500th kiwi chick to hatch at Rainbow Springs Encounter in Rotorua is set to be released into the wild.
The kiwi, called Mighty Dash, will first acclimatise at a kiwi creche in Taupo before being released into the Tongariro National Park.
Ngāi Tahu Tourism Chief Executive Quinton Hall says without such conservation efforts the future of the kiwi wouldn't be so bright.
He says Ngāi Tahu Tourism is committed to working with Rainbow Springs, and other groups, to ensure the kiwi continues to prosper.
