Race Relations commissioner Meng Foon has described Stuff's cartoon depicting ACT party leader David Seymour with Adolf Hitler and the Ku Klux Klan as bad taste.
In a statement to Newstalk ZB, Mr Foon says the cartoon, which was drawn by Sharon Murdoch, is inappropriate.
"Personally I think it is in bad taste to use Hitler and the Ku Klux Klan, who are symbolic of racism and anti-Semitism, in this sort of satirical context. "
Meng says humour has an important role in our society but would encourage all people, including artists and publishers, to think about the effects of their work upon individuals.
“I do believe that you can still have robust, rigorous and provocative, political debate without vilifying or targeting and people or groups.”
