Vegetable prices are soaring out of many Kiwis' reach with pumpkin and kumara prices now at record levels.
Statistics New Zealand data shows that pumpkin prices have increased by 176 per cent in the last year to $5.78 per kg and are the highest since the food prices were first measured in December 1993.
Kumara prices have also seen massive increases, with prices reaching a record of $8.99 per kg, up from $4.92 last year.
Consumer prices manager Matthew Haigh says poor growing conditions have led to a low supply of the vegetables.
"The wet weather early this year had a huge impact on the supply of pumpkin and kumara," he said.
Despite huge price hikes for pumpkin and kumara, fruit and vegetable prices overall fell by 2.6 per cent.
With summer upon us, tomatoes and strawberries have fallen by 44 per cent and 22 per cent respectively, contributing to the overall fall in fruit and veggie prices.
Butter prices continue to reach new highest rising another 1.3 per cent in November. The cheapest block of butter is now $5.74.
