Members of the public have been in training near Auckland today for the annual Whangaparaoa Peninsula bird survey.
It will be the second year the survey is carried out.
It is hoped it will indicate the impact of pest control over the next ten years.
Hibiscus Coast Forest and Bird chairwoman Karen Field says 20 members of the public turned up for training this morning,up from the 14 volunteers last year.
Ms Field says it is hoped the survey will make people more aware of native bird species in the area.
