A new trend towards very small houses, could change the face of the property market.

Bryce Langston is building a so-called 'tiny house' of just 15 square metres.

He told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking because tiny houses are built on trailers, it makes it possible to climb the property ladder in an entirely new way.

"They construct the house then they save up money to buy land where they can then move their house onto and then save their money to potentially construct a larger house in the future."

Bryce Langston says typical tiny houses are around two-and-a-half by five metres in size.
