The price of parking on some central Auckland streets could triple, under proposed changes to Auckland parking prices.

Newstalk ZB understands Auckland Transport is looking to introduce two main parking zones in the central business district from June.

In the inner zone, parking will increase from $4 an hour to $4.50 an hour for the first two hours, and from $8 an hour to $8.50 an hour for every subsequent hour.

In the outer zone, parking will increase from $2 an hour to $3 an hour for the first two hours, and will remain $6 an hour for every subsequent hour.

On some areas around Wynyard Quarter, Sale Street and Vector Arena, prices will increase from $2 to $3 an hour for the first two hours, and from $2 to $5 an hour for every subsequent hour.

An eight-hour park in those areas will increase from $16 to $42 under the pricing change.
