Police have carried out a post-mortem on Te Anihana Pomana after her body was found in Pukekohe.

The 25-year-old was last seen leaving the SkyCity hotel in Auckland on August 21 and her last confirmed sighting was at 5.16am on Victoria St West outside Seven Poke Asian eatery heading towards Victoria Park.

Before her disappearance, she withdrew a large amount of cash from an ATM, but left all her belongings in her SkyCity hotel room.

Police confirmed they were notified a body was located in dense bush in the Pukekohe area at 7.43pm on Saturday.

“Police have updated Te Anihana’s mother on the findings of a post-mortem carried out,” Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend said.

“We are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances of Te Anihana’s death on behalf of the Coroner.

“Our thoughts are with the Te Anihana’s mother and her wider whānau during this incredibly difficult time.”

Te Anihana’s family have criticised police for the way they announced a body had been found.

“The media releases were done without official confirmation with formal identification,” said a Facebook post linked to the family.

“Whānau hadn’t got the chance to inform many close to Te Anihana.

“Apologies to anyone that has had to read and find this information out in this manner.”

A Give a Little page set up to assist with the search for Te Anihana said her body will be brought to Dunedin once it is confirmed it was her body found in Pukekohe.

“Our new focus for this page Donations will be used to cover these transportation and funeral costs,” the page said.

“Huge thank you to everyone who has contributed, your thoughts and prayers”.

Te Anihana’s sister, Ebony, described the 25-year-old as a beautiful person who was a “well-educated and driven” individual.

“I love you and I’m only here to find you,” she told the Herald last month.
